- The END of an era?!
The END of an era?!
Or the beginning of something better? 👀
💌 What’s happening this week:
Peacefully closing a chapter
Journaling prompt: “When things are getting bad”
Building community in your neighborhood
Navigating life, career, and well-being in your 30s

“peacefully closing a chapter and welcoming a new beginning”
This past week, I publicly shared that I am retiring my marketing and media agency, The Quirky Pineapple Studio.
PAUSE FOR DRAMATIC EFFECT
…
…
…
After 7+ years building and running the agency, growing from a team of one (me!) to a team of 5 at one point, being able to employ my partner (big learning curve there for us both lol), and building a business that supported my lifestyle…
It is time to close that chapter of my life and move on.
Here’s what my little sister had to say when I shared the news with my family 😅

And she’s right!! I don’t think I actually gave myself time and space to reflect on EVERYTHING involving The Quirky Pineapple Studio since its inception in 2014 as a simple blog to document life in my early 20s post-grad, to what it is (was?) now… a marketing and media agency that’s worked with freelancers, solopreneurs, small businesses, and organizations on sharing their message and developing inclusive marketing strategies.
When I bought the domain for The Quirky Pineapple Studio and started investing in the brand… I was 22 years old. I was in my last year of college, considering looking for full-time employment in the hospitality industry (what I studied) or taking a gap year to teach English abroad.
(I took the gap year, which turned into 2 years to teach English abroad in Spain 😉)
11 years later, life is looking REALLY different from when I was writing blog posts in my shared college home about looking for my first entry-level job or moving abroad to…
🏡 Sitting on the couch in my apartment in Toledo, Spain, writing this to you
💖 Actively saving money to buy my first home with my partner (whom I met here!)
💻 Closing the blog turned business that started it all to pursue other professional avenues (you can still read The Quirky Pineapple Studio blog archives for all the good stuff on marketing and business)
Funnily though, things that haven’t changed are:
💼 Reevaluating what I want work to look like, so it supports my life (and looking for work lol)
📽 Creating content and STILL writing, and now scripting, filming, and editing for YouTube
🤓 Starting something new and investing in something better (hint: it’s got to do with my pivot into productivity, planning, and journaling)
So while it is kinda an end of an era for The Quirky Pineapple Studio and that stage of my life… it is ALSO the beginning of something so much better (not sure what it is yet but I’m showing up to build it everyday).
A few folks have asked me how I feel closing such a big aspect of my life and the business…
To be honest, after 2 years grieving what the business was and my relationship to it, I’m at peace with the decision and feel no sense of regreat or remorse. I am happy to close that chapter of my life, let it go, and move forward with the experience it taught me to do something aligned to THIS SEASON of my life. 🌷
Cheers to planting new seeds that will (hopefully) blossom into something just as beautiful and impactful as what The Quirky Pineapple Studio was.
✍️ THIS WEEK’S JOURNALING PROMPT
“What are the signs/symptoms that things are getting ‘bad’ and I need to add extra support or care to my life?”
Usually journaling prompts ask us to share a list of gratitudes, things that fill our cup, what we like or even dislike, etc. I was suggested this journaling prompt from BetterHelp, and I LOVE IT. In my head, I can tell when I am having more ‘sad days’ than usual or when my mental health needs extra support, but I don’t think I’ve ever written it down. Bringing awareness to these symptoms is so important because now I can recognize them sooner and start building in more support and care to my routines.
💻 THINGS THAT STUCK OUT TO ME ON THE INTERNET
UN PASEO AL SOL POR TOLEDO: I love, love, love this video I found on Instagram about Toledo! Nothing like romanticizing the city you live in and just how beautiful it is.
WHAT TO HAVE IN AN EMERGENCY KIT: On Monday, Spain (and Portugal) had a major blackout where we lost power at 12:30pm for most of the day. In our area, we got electricity back at 7:30pm, but other areas in Spain not until well past midnight or early morning the next day. I am now going to be making an emergency kit in case this ever happens again.
BUILDING COMMUNITY WITH NEIGHBORS: Similarly to the emergency kit I will now be making, when the major blackout happened, it was a huge reminder that neighbors and local communities are SO important. We had no access to data or internet, so it was all about leaning on our neighbors and helping each other. Here are 19 ideas to build community in your neighborhood.
🗓 PREPARING FOR THE WEEK AHEAD
💬 CONVERSATIONS TO PLAN AHEAD As I am actively looking for intentional work opportunities and planning for my time and capacity - this week my partner and I are setting aside time to plan for the rest of the year, so we’re on the same page about time off and expectations. It’s been so important for me and my partner to have ‘planning conversations’ together where we talk about summer vacations, where we’ll spend the holidays, what’s possible within our budget, and anything else! We try to do this at least 1x a month and it’s helped me plan my capacity, have a clearer idea of our budget as a family, my partner knows what dates to request off from work, and I can also tell my family (and he can tell his) about important dates we plan on traveling. |
